Set in a small frontier town under the jurisdiction of a political entity known only as “the Empire”, the story is told from the perspective of the town’s magistrate, who has experienced peace and tranquility until a threat from “the barbarians” throws his world into turmoil. A chilling and gripping journey to the dark side of humanity that asks: just who are the barbarians?

Tracing her rise from poverty in Black Pearl, New Orleans to her move to Chicago in the midst of the Great Migration, The Mahalia Jackson Musical follows the development of her career – with her dozen Gold Albums and four Grammy Awards – from touring local churches to performing before European heads of state. The play portrays the evolution of her activism, culminating with Martin Luther King’s historic March on Washington, where she performed before 250,000 people.

Bar Kapra the Squirrel Hunter

“When Bar Kapra dies I will walk. I’ll walk on his grave.”
Bar Kapra hunts squirrels while Bat Kapra trails behind him putting the dead squirrels into bags. Trout collects and disposes of the bags left by Bat Kapra. Bar Kapra shoots Bat Kapra, who then enlists the help of Trout to take revenge. A folkloric tragic-comedy about retribution and synaesthesia.
Scapegoat Carnivale Theatre is the Segal Centre’s Studio resident theatre company for a second year.
