The AeneidThe Aeneid
théâtre avec marionnettes / en anglais - première mondiale
Texte Olivier Kemeid
Traduction Judith Miller
Mise en scène Zach Fraser
Avec Chimwemwe Miller, Deena Aziz, Marcelo Arroyo

Sometimes flight is necessary, leaving everything behind in pursuit of a new place to call home. Kemeid's Aeneid is a dynamic blend of epic legend and contemporary reality. Rich with scenes of moving drama and sharp humour, Kemeid's version of this classic tale migrates the search for a homeland to the stark world of middle-eastern revolution. In this powerful and disturbing new adaptation the mythic tenor of Virgil’s original epic is infused with supernatural encounters and underworld spirits. An English-language Montreal première, staged for the first time using puppetry,The Aeneid explores the refugee experience in Quebecois writing.

Talisman Theatre is a professional, award-winning, Montreal-based production company in its seventh season. It was founded by Lyne Paquette (Artistic and executive director of Talisman Theatre), and Emma Tibaldo (now Artistic and Executive director of Playwrights' Workshop Montreal). Since its foundation in 2005, Talisman Theatre has adhered to its mission: "To produce professional English-language premieres of contemporary Quebecois plays for non-francophone audiences and students." Their productions are selected to help build bridges between traditional Quebecois culture and Montreal's other cultural communities working with contemporary issues. Talisman productions have been nominated for and won the Quebec Critics (AQCT) award for best English Production (2008-2009) and their 2010 production The Flood Thereafter, written by Sarah Berthiaume, was nominated for MECCA awards in three categories. Their 2011 production Coma Unplugged was nominated for Best Set Design at the 2012 Cochon d’Or awards.
