BTW presents the award winning and Broadway classic “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry for BTW’s 40th anniversary season. This landmark production tells the story of a black family chasing the American Dream. Written well before the civil rights marches and first produced in 1959, Raisin was the
spark that ignited the “Black Theatre” Movement of the 60’s. Hansberry’s Younger family brought to life the
honest struggle of the “average” Black American family and broke the instilled vision of comedic, stereotypical depiction of African Americans in theatre and film.

Pour le 40e anniversaire de BTW, ce dernier présente la pièce classique de Broadway, grande gagnante de prix, « A Raisin in the Sun » par Lorraine Hansberry. Cette production repère raconte l’histoire d’une famille noire à la poursuite du rêve américain. Écrit bien avant les démonstrations publiques pour les droits civils aux États-Unis, et d’abord produite en 1959, la pièce « A Raisin in the Sun » a été l’étincelle qui a provoqué le mouvement de « Black Theatre » des années 1960. La famille Younger de Hansberry,
en illustrant la lutte pour la survie que devait mener une famille noire américaine de classe moyenne, a permis de rompre avec la vision comique et stéréotypée d’Afro-américains dans le théâtre et dans les films.
