The Bus

For Twiddle, Sloth, and Nipo life together in the city has been a constant struggle. But finally something good has happened to them. In the morning they are to meet at the bus-stop down the street. All that will prevent them from turning their luck around is one simple task.

The Bus is collectively written, directed and performed by Andrew Morphew, Suki Wellman, and Dan Layng who blend theatrical clowning with elements of popular culture to create a unique theatre experience. Including a live music soundtrack by musicians Kevin O’neil, Andre Bourbonnais, and Serge LeBlanc, The Bus is sure to engage and entertain audiences with even the shortest attention spans.

Before Clown Farm, Suki, Andrew and Dan produced their brand of clown entertainment with Ottawa’s Counternotes Theatre Group. While with Counternotes, the clown trio developed a substantial cult following with the help of funding from the Council for the Arts in Ottawa, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Now in Montreal, Suki, Andrew, and Dan are looking forward to being as successful with Montreal’s Fringe Festival audiences as they were with those in the Nation’s Capital.

The Bus will be performed at Fringe venue #1, the MAI (Montreal, Arts, Interculturels), 3680 Jeanne Mance at the following fringe dates in June. Saturday 11th at 2:30pm, Sunday 12th at 10:30pm, Thursday 16th at 11:15pm, Friday 17th at 6:00pm, Saturday 18th at 12:30pm and Sunday 19th at 6:30pm. Please note that Clown Farm is offering an opening night 2 for 1 ticket special on Saturday the 11th. The Big Funk : a casual play

A knife-thrower, a promising actor, a housewife and a villain (or is she?) each struggle with the funk that surrounds them, trying to tell their side of the same story all the while attempting to figure out who is the hero of the play.

Sweet – Edgy – Smart – Quirky – Funny – Charming… Casual.

Black Sheep Theatre will be bringing on the funk this summer in their Cross-Canada tour of Fringe Festivals (Montréal, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Edmonton). Based in Ottawa, Black Sheep strives to present plays of poetry, plays of beauty, plays with a little bit of an edge to them, but more than anything else, plays which deserve to be seen.

CACTUS is a unique physically devised solo show which treads the line of comedy, theatre and performance art. It is a mobius-strip, stream-of-conscious tale told by Phil, from New Zealand. Phil slips between reality, walking through the desert with 2 weird characters, and fantasy, where he talks directly to the audience spinning yarns and leaving them in hysterics. It is a multi-layered, theatrical, stand-up, explosion of imagination.

SOLD-OUT in Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver & Melbourne
Winner of Toronto Fringe’s “Patron’s Pick” award
Winner of Vancouver Fringe’s “Georgia Straight Pick of the Fringe”

In Jonno’s 2nd solo show he has teamed up with director Mark Chavez, from Sabotage, who was recently short listed for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004 and is well known to Montreal audiences. They have joined forces to come up with a highly original style of comedy that offers a refreshingly different and unique experience for Montreal audiences.

Jonno Katz found his passion and life’s work at the John Bolton Theatre School where he was trained in the LeCoq style of physically devised theatre. He followed a dream and went and lived in New York, where he eye-witnessed the 2nd plane going into the world trade centre. This gave him the impetus to make his first full length solo show, “Uber Alice-the elaborate adventures of a New Zealand manicurist,” which he toured throughout North America and Australia. In 2004 he returned to Canada with CACTUS selling out in 6 cities and winning 2 awards. He then had a highly successful run at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and is finally bringing CACTUS to Montreal before he embarks on a 3rd tour of Canada with a new solo show, titled JOLLY ROGER (lookout for it in 2006 in Montreal).

Katz says, “I prefer to use a mix of scripted dialogue and tangential improvisations in my shows. Structure is important but I believe audiences love seeing performers taking risks up on stage. Therefore I embrace wherever my mind, body or technicians take me and see how far I can venture down a tangent before I pull it all back in. The line between chaos and control is constantly shifting and evolving throughout the show.”

Juliet & Romeo

Hamlet's back and he's a she!

Production Canis Tempus
Remember the 2003 Fringe Centaur Award-winning production of Hamlet from the California Lit Moon Theatre Company? Andrew Cuk, who played the title role, fell in love WITH and IN Montreal. He stayed and he is presenting his new company's premier work, Juliet & Romeo, at the year's St.Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival. And what's more... he's playing Juliet!

Surprising! Bizarre! Visceral! Two actors turn the story of Shakespeare's famous lovers upside down in this powerful physical theatre piece. A stylized movement vocabulary, theatrical masks, a surreal setting, an original soundscape and the rich words of the Bard combine to explode our preconceptions.

Timmy’s Sexual Adventures

Theatre Company: The Curtin Travellers

“Timmy’s Sexual Adventures” is a modern coming of age story with a sexual superhero guide, black humour and a giant pair of underwear. The play follows the sexual progress of Timmy from pre-adolescence to full fledged ‘maturity’. On Timmy’s journey we meet his school chums Dougie, Billy, Brenda Parker and Tammy Zindel. With a strange yet enticing mix of monologues, characters, puppetry, and spirituality- you will eventually find out just what really is going on in Timmy’s oversized underpants.

On Saturday June 11th The Curtin Travellers will premier the new show “Timmy’s Sexual Adventures” at the Montreal Fringe Festival. This new one person play written and performed by Brad Curtin promises to bring a new spin on the coming of age story.

The set concept by Nick Hehn is essentially a giant pair of underpants. Constructed with stretchable semi-permeable lycra and wood, the theatre company hopes to get a good bang for their buck. “It’s really versatile” said Hehn. “The actor can go in and out of the set, use it with puppets, pull out props, incorporate shadow play and use it as a backdrop. It adds many levels to the show. All this and it can fit in the back of a car! I’m hoping to get a lot of compliments on my briefs this summer.”

The brief concept does not stop with the set. The Curtin Travellers are using the idea across the board- programs, flyers, t-shirts, costume and posters. “It’s going to be a fun summer” said Curtin. “While other companies are putting up their $2 11’’ by 17’’ glossy colour posters, I’ll be hanging my photocopied underwear across Canada- I’ll just have to make sure they’re well hung…!”

Montreal will be the first stop on a nine city tour this summer which also includes Vancouver, Victoria and Edmonton. “Timmy’s Sexual Adventures” can be seen in the Montreal Fringe at Venue # 6 (Segal’s). It has strong sexual language and sexual themes so is adult accompaniment rated. Tickets are $9 Adults and $7 Students/Seniors and can be purchased at the Fringe during the festival, or by calling the Box Office after May 25th at 514 849 3378.

Venue #6 (Segal’s) is located at 3997 St-Laurent.

Les Déesses Chomedy Laval

Compagnie Incognito
